cardamom bourbon fizz
Loving me a cozy Cardamom Bourbon Fizz for a cooler autumn evening.
Take a bow, bourbon. This low maintenance sip features plenty of your favorite bourbon shaken with Kahlua, a cardamom honey syrup, bitters, and lemon juice, and all gets topped off with shimmering sparkling water for a festive little nightcap worth your weekend.
Cardamom in cocktails is quite underutilized and my recent acquisition of the little green pods inspired this simple treat. Sort of reminiscent of chai, since that is one of the main flavorings of the favored drink, yet brought up a notch with Kahlua and kicked to the moon with bubbles. I definitely whipped one of these guys up after a long workshift Friday.
The only effort here is simmering a quick simple syrup. Heat honey, water, cardamom, and a cinnamon stick until the honey dissolves, then let the mixture steep for 10 minutes. Longer, if you have the time. Strain out the cardamom and cinnamon sticks.
Shake together bourbon, 1-2 ounces of syrup (depending on your desired sweetness level), lemon juice, Kahlua, and bitters. Pour into a glass and top with bubbly water. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, and some sugared rosemary. Recipe for that is below – it’s very easy and looks wonderfully festive.
