cinnamon spice bourbon sour

Cinnamon, spice, and everything nice.

Wowzas, a non-pumpkin cocktail this week! Granted, the taste profile is quite similar, but we’re not using any of our jolly autumn gourd. Character growth, people.

Sidebar: I’ll have you know that my “h” and “g” keys are currently sticking whenever I try and type a word with them, so if words look assbackwards or are missing letters, that’s why. It’s not because I drank too many of these Cinnamon Spice Bourbon Sours while writing up the blog post.

Or did I?

Feeling a cozy sip today. Our weather hasn’t been extraordinary, but alright – more than tolerable. I’d dub the conditions prim enough for a bourbon drink that elicits the fireside feels of a chilly fall night.

Spiced brown sugar syrup mingles with bourbon, lemon, and cider. A little more prep than some of my drinks, but by no means anything alarmingly difficult or labor-intensive. Just heat some shit in a pot, shake, and drink. Cheers!

Sugar and Spice

The prep time here is a little bit longer only because of the syrup. Like I said, though, no huge ordeal in the grand scheme.

First, dissolve some brown sugar in water. Stir in cinnamon, ginger, and cloves – my autumnal trifecta of choice – and let it mellow into the syrup until no longer granulated. Pull the pan off the heat and let it cool up a bit.

For the cocktail: your choice bourbon, a big of the syrup – the whole batch makes enough for about 4-5 drinks – lemon juice, a couple dashes of vanilla, and some apple cider. Shake until cold, then pour into a favorite cocktail glass. I like a little cinnamon stick and star anise garnish, as I often do this time of year.

Then, enjoy!

Recipe card contains directions to make a pitcher version of this badboy. Perfect if you want to prep for the holidays. Otherwise, kick back with your own little portion. You deserve it to close out October.
