honey blackberry fig sour

Get a load of this fancy shit.

Summer figs are toppling onto grocery shelves, and I figured a good way to celebrate such was with a good figgy cocktail. No figgy pudding yet, that’s not until December. Which’ll be here before you know it, really.

I haven’t much explored gin prior to this drink, but I think it’ll become a fun little addition to the alcoholic repertoire. Gin is quite floral compared to other liquors, with the body of the flavor originating from juniper and other botanicals. I have flawed memories of gin as a child, so perhaps unconsciously I avoided it due to mental inhibition.

Now, though? I think I’m a convert. It’s pretty fun to work with.

This frothy gin sour is gorgeous to behold, guests will be pleased with the aesthetic and even more with the bountiful, vibrant flavors. Muddled fig and blackberry color the drink, and a splash of creme de mure underlines the berry tones even further. Serve it up in a lovely couple glass for a showstopping sip.

Whoa Blackberry, Lambaram

The process of the drink is real easy, just a bit of smooshing in a cocktail shaker. Fig, blackberries, honey, and lemon. Add some gin, and a dash of blackberry liqueur for an extra something something. I go pretty minimal with the liqueur since it’s quite strong, but you can increase up to 1/2 ounce if you wish.

For that foamy cap, shake in an egg white as well. You don’t have to do this, but sour cocktails tend to boast a beautiful layer of froth atop, and the egg white is the key to this accomplishment.

Strain the drink into a couple glass, or really any shorter cocktail glass you have. I like a touch of mint atop, and of course a cute little bud. Bottoms up!
