peach tequila sour
One sunny Saturday I decided to be a little bit sour.
…By making a tequila sour, that is.
Peach season is dwindling away, and from a marketing perspective is certainly all but gone thanks to the arrival of our autumnal gourd. Seriously, it’s amazing how fast folks swap from summer to fall, like those laments about the soon-disappearing hot weather (except if you’re in bumfuk Florida) become a thing of a day ago once a certain coffee chain drops the PSL into the rotation.
Don’t get me wrong, I love fall, but not in August. September is when I’ll allow myself a festive drink and replace my summer hues with pumpkin everything. I might pretend it’s nicer out by wearing a long sleeved shirt, when I’m feeling extra bummed about residing in perpetual summer.
Since we’re still hanging out in August, let me introduce you to the Peach Tequila Sour. A cute little sip with an effervescent cap. Perhaps your cocktail farewell to summer before you, too, transform into an autumn squash. She’s delicate, happy, and only five ingredients. Great for a lazy weekend brunch or a dip in the pool.
Let Me See Your Booty (Fruit) Drop
The force behind the froth in this drink is an egg white. I know raw egg freaks some people out, so rest assured that this cocktail is just as lovely-tasting without it. If you’re not flipping shit, however, flip your sip with the white to create that pretty frothy layer.
In your shaker, combine tequila (any kind will do, I usually like a silver in this drink though), lemon juice, peach preserves, a dash or two of orange bitters, and the egg white if you’re using. Shake vigorously without ice for 45 seconds. Add ice and finish off with an intense wiggle-jiggle session for 30 seconds longer.
Strain the drink into a coupe glass. All your hard shaking work should yield a nice white foam atop.
For garnish, I like a basil leaf or a cocktail pick with some peach slices. Nothing fancy, but gives the drink a gentle spiffing.
What do you think: pumpkin spice in August, or do you wait until closer to actual autumn? We all know where I stand now, so I’m curious where you draw the line, too.
