pumpkin butter white russian
Dessert drinks are my jam, fellas.
If I were to pick a favorite cocktail, I think it’d be an espresso martini – or, an old fashioned, if it’s earlier in the night. I associate espresso martinis with special occasions, like birthdays or some of the adventures my friend and I would go on in St. Pete or randomly around town.
The White Russian is not an espresso martini, but its fairly close in composition. I don’t really put much thought into this drink variety, to be honest. Until this weekend, when brainstorming for Thanksgiving recipes, and ways to use the three jars of pumpkin butter in my pantry.
As is the case with most my cocktails, this Pumpkin Butter White Russian requires few words. The swirl of cream speaks loudly enough for the delight of this drink. Just a few easy ingredients yields a sweet and rich after dinner drink with which you can cozy up while watching spooky movies, comfy movies, or sports. Preferably with a roaring fire place. My oh my, is that a serene image.
Rushin’ for the Russian
And if you’re in a rush, the White Russian is your friend.
I don’t even shake a White Russian – this one I choose to stir directly in the glass. The only real handywork needed is pulling espresso shots. If you don’t have an espresso machine, no sweat. The shots are not required, they exist mostly to bolster up the PSL essence I tried to obtain in the recipe.
For the pumpkin butter, Trader Joe’s sells my favorite variety. I’ve seen versions at Sur La Table and Williams-Sonoma as well, so wherever your preferred shopping outlet may be, check it out!
Once you’ve got your components gathered, this is an easy process. Grab your favorite glass and stir together vodka (vanilla vodka is dope here, FYI), Kahlua, the espresso shots, and the pumpkin butter. Fill the glass with ice and pour some heavy cream overtop. Enjoy the swirls and curls as the dairy melds into the booze – give it a few stirs if it’s especially stubborn.
Shake some cinnamon or cinnamon sugar overtop, and you’re done! Now you can kick back wherever feels comfiest and wind down for the night. Sound good? Does to me.
