You know what I hate?

Well, I guess quite a bit – though hate is likely too strong a word for any of the occasions – but my biggest and most irksome battle right now is going through an entire recipe, loving the recipe, and hating the photos. It’s pretty dejecting to get all the way to the end only to make some sort of stylistic error and thus having to scrap the iteration as you know it.

It’s frustrating!

Another random thing on my mind, which may be controversial in some sense, is how I find it quite annoying how every celebrity or athlete feels the need to author an autobiography, or commission someone to write it for them. I speak most specifically about athletes right now. I may be a minority, but I don’t find the stories of elites very inspiring most of the time. Sure, I appreciate accomplishments and the work it took to get there, but I don’t need a book-length sob story about an ankle injury or a rude coach, or the 100 folks on your team that helped lift you to a world record. I don’t relate to that extravagance, nor do I buy entirely into the narrative that “hard work will get you where you want to go.” That’s not the whole story, and I don’t need a whole story of another genetically gifted runner telling me that I will accomplish my dreams if I juSt BeLIEve.

I think in success, which is largely a matter of perspective, there are several sides to the coin. Hard work, yes, but also luck, connections, timing, natural ability. For elite athletes, especially the latter. I’m kind of tired of privileged white folk telling me otherwise in book form.

Third thing: I’ve broken out into some kind of unidentified rash on my face. It doesn’t itch or burn or anything, nor do the spots have much texture if any, but they kinda look like red pinpricks. Of course, Google tells me I have leukemia. Go figure. So that’s happening right now, too.

Alright, I’m done ranting I think. Needed a good fire-breathing session. Thanks, if you got this far.

It’s Super Bowl week, so below I’m sharing some nice recipes for your entertaining ease. Hopefully, I’ll be able to fix a recipe I flopped this weekend (well, as I said, the recipe was rad, the pics were not rad). Fairly nondescript week on my end, just the usuals of cooking, dodging through my day job, and drinking lots of coffee.

Oh! And if you’re feeling snacky, I’ve a nice little treat for you: 20% your purchase on RIND’s website with the code “KELLIEK.” I love the Orange Chips and Straw-Peary chewies, and if you head over to Instagram you’ll find a pretty, bubbly little Sparkling Ginger Citrus Kombucha Mocktail to try when you need some bounce in your cup.

Enjoy your week, kids!

A Few Things I’m Digging

Bubble bath…Used the Dr. Teal’s Soothe & Sleep Foaming Bubble Bath on Tuesday, and it was such a lovely addition. I don’t take baths a lot except when I have extra time or feel very stressed. This made me really look forward to my soak!

Crackers…Straight up no idea why but I’m into good ole fashioned animal crackers right now. I just enjoy them straight from the box, no flourishes, as I did when I was a kid.

Tank top…These cropped active tanks are so comfortable, I might have to buy another color or two.

Shops and Wish List

Fashion

Target…I don’t really do bright colors but I’m loving the pink-pocalypse. This fleece pullover is a nice transitional piece since it’s still toasty but boasts a brighter spring hue. The heart button up cardigan is really cute if you really embrace Valentine’s Day – I could do without the embroidered heart, personally. I adore all the rustic colors of this oversized shacket and honestly have been eyeing it for awhile! The brown and pink are my favorites. Aside from girly colored shit, I love the waistline on these bike shorts and these straight fit pants are just what I’ve been looking for for awhile – black pants that could be casual or dressed up.

Skincare & Wellness

Target…Really thinking of getting this Sharper Image head, neck & shoulders heating pad for whatever is causing the pain in my pectoral area. It’s not really getting much better so some warm therapy might be of use.

Pacifica…Love their eye masks and really want to try the Stress Rehab Coconut & Caffeine face mask.

Week in Training

Monday, 1.23: 8.26 miles, 10:54 pace + 20 minute full body

Pretty pleasant run, got to see another ship drift into the port which was nice.

Strength:

  • 3 x 12 kneeling front raise 15#
  • 3 x 10 ea. hammer curl SS side raise 15#
  • 3 x 16 stiff leg deadlift 50#
  • 3 x 15 ea. side lunge 30#

Tuesday, 1.24: 7.36 miles, 10:52 pace + 20 minute full body

Chose to take the day off today so had a more casual morning on my hands. Very brisk and chilly run, as usual harder to breathe with the wind so blunt and unrelenting, but not a bad session overall.

Strength:

  • 3 x 10 ea. skullcrusher 15#
  • 3 x 12 squat to upright row 25#
  • 3 x 12 pressup 30#
  • 3 x 15 pull apart 15#
  • Core work

Wednesday, 1.25: 7 miles, 10:52 pace + 25 minute legs & core

Pretty nice morning, way warmer than yesterday but within my ideal temperature range (around 62 and very breezy).

  • 3 x 15 sumo deadlift 50#
  • 3 x 10 ea. reverse lunge 30#
  • 3 x 20 weighted deadbug 30#
  • 3 x 12 quad lean-back things
  • Core work

Thursday, 1.16: 4.08 mile walk (1:04:00)

Friday, 1.17: 8.21 miles, 10:58 pace

It got cold! VERY windy but thankfully my lungs and legs were having a less cranky day, and I felt really good during this trot. Had a rare coffee afterwards because it sounded good.

Saturday, 1.28: 7.46 miles, 10:43 pace + 35 minute full body

What a derp of a morning. My watch charging cord is going to shit, so I had to finagle with the angle until I found the one in which my watch would actually pick up a charge (same thing happened with J’s so we know it’s the charger and not the device). Then I had to rip two pages of my bullet journal out because I fucked up, and to cap that off my running route was extra stressful due to Crapsparilla (Gasparilla) closures. Couldn’t get to the water fountains, which blew, and it was windy as all hell out. Not my best start to the day, but hopefully all the bullshit got out of the way early.

Strength:

  • 3 x 12 front squat 50#
  • 3 x 15 ea. balanced overhead extension 15#
  • 3 x 12 ea. balanced front raise 15#
  • 3 x 15 plie squat 50#
  • 3 x 15 bent front raise 30#
  • Core work

Sunday, 1.29: 4.11 mile walk (1:04:00)

Total running mileage: 38.3
