Bullshit week. Glad it’s over.
I’m not sure who pissed off the universe and how, but everyone seems to be having a ballsish time of things as 2023 begins to draw its heavy blackout curtain. This week’s stressors were more day-to-day, what-the-hell-else-could-go-wrong shindigs largely work related, but still – cause for more angst than I really needed to deal with.
Sidebar: I’m drinking a margarita right now and WHOO did I make that strong. Ah well.
Daylight savings time always fucks me up, though usually fall back is far more palatable than its springtime cousin. This time around, for whatever reason, I was restless, slept like ass, and woke up cranky and not at all ready to deal with anything Sunday-related (Sundays are usually asinine and feel like they take forever to end). As the day went on I felt a little better, especially when I got home and redid a cookie recipe that’s been haunting me for quite awhile. It was also a glorious afternoon, full of bright sunshine and a crisp little breeze. Perfect weather.
I don’t know, I feel really behind with life at the moment. Thanksgiving is just walloping me right in the ass and I am not ready. I started my FMG menu, but it’s nowhere near finished. I haven’t planned out jack fuck when it comes to my tablescape, a proposed Friendsgiving is looming – supposed to be this coming Saturday, but who the fuck knows – and yeah, it just feels like a lot, compacted into a very small period of time. I usually prepare far better for the holidays, but this year my brain is everywhere.
What did I even do this week? My friend and I got beers one afternoon, which was lovely and well needed. I ventured out for a solo coffee date – well, solo plus Little Miss Ba, who’s always a companion when coffee is involved. Saturday I went for a joy ride around town, which was nice. Pretty simple joys as far as joys go.
I carved a pumpkin the day prior to Halloween. Just this afternoon I had to can them since the flies and rot took over, but despite my lack of inspiration for a design this year, I think my dude is SO CUTE.
Speaking of joys – what made you happy this week? This weather, in all its windy, brisk, chilly glory, is bringing me a lot of peace. Morning coffee tastes far better when the temperatures drop. Fact.
The Fuck We Cooking This Week?
…Another easy gameday pizza!
…Chewy, simple, delicious oatmeal cookies.
…Some kind of salmon thing. Haven’t decided yet.
A Few Things I’m Digging
Lunch combo…Been eating a weird variety of nibble plates for lunches lately: usually chips, guac, veggies, and whatever protein I have on hand. Seems to work just fine, especially because I hate deciding on a lunch and am usually starving when I get home from The Day Job.
Tequila…Been loving the Milagro Añejo in most of my autumn-themed margaritas. Try it out in my Harvest Pumpkin Margarita or the Cranberry Apple Margarita!
Shops & Wish List
Fashion
Target…Like this ribbed long sleeve top for running, could use another warmer piece of two since I usually need sleeves when it’s under 60 degrees. Always a sucker for a fair isle beanie and these cute matching-ish gloves. Looking at this crewneck pullover, quite like the cropped fit.
Kitchen & Dining
Williams-Sonoma…Love these holiday etched tumblers for winter cocktails, or just for drinking. Thinking this snoopy mug will need to be added to my gifting list. So cute. And this holiday forest mug is super gorgeous.
Week in Training
Monday, 10.30: 8.24 miles, 11:32 pace
Didn’t sleep well practically all weekend. Was nice to be outside, my right leg was very sore for some reason and I definitely felt the crick in my neck again, so physically this run wasn’t the best it could’ve been. A couple good nights of rest should help me catch up and normalize again.
Tuesday, 10.31: 3.53 miles, 9:56 pace + 35 minute strength
Little progression run in the morning; didn’t have a lot of time before an extra early workshift but I’m proud of what I got done!
Strength:
- 4 x 12 alt .lunge 50#
- 2 x 8/2 x 10 ea. upright row 30/25#
- 4 x 12 ea. triceps extension 20#
- 4 x 12 triceps extension 35#
- 4 x 15 goblet squat 65#
- 4 x 8 lat pulldown 60#
- Core work
Wednesday, 11.1: 5 miles, 11:22 pace + 4 miles, 10:25 pace
Beautiful weather today, especially in the afternoon. Couldn’t have asked for better, so got out for a second run in the midmorning to reset before tackling my tasks for the day. Both were easy effort, casual, and mentally quite freeing.
Thursday, 11.2: 5 miles, 11:32 pace
Very windy, a few gusts took the breath out of me! Legs felt tired and soul felt tireder, but I got it done and managed to find a groove eventually.
Friday, 11.3: 5 miles, 11:00 pace + 30 minute full body
Today was miserable. Run in the morning was very satisfying: 55 minutes flat, 11:00 flat mile, 5 flat miles. Perfect. Forced my ass into the gym after work and I’m glad I did even though I didn’t much enjoy it.
Strength:
- 4 x 10 ea. biceps curl 20#
- 4 x 12 diamond squat 60#
- 4 x10 ea. shrug 45#
- 4 x 10 double pulse sumo squat 70#
- 2 x 10/2 x 12 ea. front raise 20/15#
- Core work
Saturday, 11.4: 11 miles, 11:32 pace
Aw man, should’ve run 11.4 miles. That would’ve been fun. Very windy morning, I was in a foul mood, but I felt a little better once I finished. One big checkmark for the day complete.
Sunday, 11.5: 4.05 mile walk (1:02:00)
Total running mileage: 41.8
