The Chiefs are chief once again.

Though I can’t say I’m into football – even though, like practically everyone else, I’ve been talking about it the past two weeks – I must admit last night’s game was pretty great. I hate when playoff matches are one-sided, so a good neck-in-neck battle is pretty satisfying regardless of the sport. The suspense factor of Patrick Mahomes’ injury kind of made me lean KC despite my overarching neutrality. I do respect the dude.

All in all, an enjoyable Sunday evening. The close of football season is kind of sad in a sense because it means the holidays are really, truly done, and we begin that long stretch of time between the February classic and the fall. I like that baseball begins soon since that is my sport of choice, but it’s not quite the festive event that football is.

What did ya’ll eat for the Super Bowl? Did you throw/attend any gatherings? J made bar pizzas (his specialty, they’re sooo good) and bought some salsa, while I baked up a batch of my buffalo ranch snack mix and “BLT” dip and homemade tortilla chips. Fab. Not an overly excessive spread, but a really good one that yielded just enough leftovers to quell any weekday munchies upcoming.

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. It’s not a sweeping event for me, though I took the day off out of sheer convenience. I’ll probably just make a giant sandwich for us to eat, and maybe we’ll crack open some wine. We’ll see. Regardless of my age/relationship status – we’ve been together almost 5 years now – I’ve never care for the day. I never even received cute secret admirer cards when I was in grade school. Sniff. Though to be fair I don’t think I wrote any either.

Reminds me of the time in 5th grade some kid who sat behind me in homeroom left a note in my desk asking me if I wanted to “go out with him.” Like what the fuck does that even mean in elementary school? Being a kid is a weird phenomenon. I suppose you can hold hands in the hallway and peck a kiss on the other’s cheek as a way of “dating.” Though nowadays who the hell knows how far children go.

Anywho. Not my division.

Enjoy your week, pals. Tomorrow I’m throwing down a most excellent dinner perfect for a romantic, cozy meal in with your shnookums. Or, just whenever you’re craving balls. Wink wink.

The Fuck We Eating This Week?

Easy, sweet and sticky shrimp bowls…

Loaded veggie fajitas…

A sweet and sour meatball dish…

Fruity and lemony cupcakes…

A Few Things I’m Digging

Froyo…I know a lot of people shit on frozen yogurt, but I enjoy it especially because it doesn’t upset my stomach like ice cream. I often buy Publix brand because it’s one of the best out there, and right now I’m loving cookies n’ cream!

Popcorn…I’m apparently a big popcorn connoisseur nowadays. The Safe + Fair birthday cake popcorn is fab. I enjoy the little scraps of birthday cake flavor at the bottom of the bag. Total ho for popcorn dust, apparently.

Hot chocolate…Cooler weather this week means Molten Tahini Coconut Hot Chocolate. So rich and fudgy, like straight up toasty chocolate in a mug. Mmmmm.

Shops & Wish List

Fashion

Target…Bought these linen high rise shorts, they’re very cozy and fashionable, perfect for casual wear. I quite literally have 0 need for these platform heels but I’m drawn to them for no reason. I’d probably get black since I don’t have the balls for the bright magenta. Love the bead detail on these sandals, much more practical aesthetic and I’m a fan of a chunky heel since I’m less likely to faceplant. Put in my cart a few more colors of these cropped active tanks because I adore them for warmer weather runs. Kinda feels like I’m not wearing anything even though I most assuredly am.

Skincare & Wellness

SpaLife: These sheet masks are the cutest things! I love coffee masks so I grabbed the Like You A-Latte, and the You’re My Jam is also on my list next time.

Kitchen & Dining

Pottery Barn…Picked up these cute stoneware mugs, it actually occurred to me that I don’t have any really good sturdy pieces for photographing! The matching bowl is also really lovely and everything in the collection is on sale right now.

Week in Training

Monday, 2.6: 7 miles, 10:09 pace + 20 minute full body

I expect the ideal running temp – around 59/60 with some humidity – lent to my legs feeling pretty springy. I decided to pick it up for a couple miles after a 3 mile “warmup”. I was a bit surprised and disappointed by how slow I proved over that period. 8:51 and 8:50 were my splits – the consistency was kinda cool, but for the effort I was expecting a bit faster. Still, it felt nice to ramp it up a little.

Strength:

  1. 3 x 15 RDL 50#
  2. 3 x 12 narrow squat 50#
  3. 3 x 10 ea. balanced shoulder press 20#
  4. 3 x 12 ea. balanced single arm row 25#

Tuesday, 2.7: 6.1 miles, 10:50 pace + 21 minute full body

Really lovely morning again and a nice, steady little run. Nice to see my heartrate starting to fall a bit on sub-11 runs!

Strength:

  • 3 x 10 ea. curl 20#
  • 3 x 12 heel elevated squat 50#
  • 3 x 10 ea. triceps ext. 20#
  • 3 x 12 roll up 15#
  • 3 x 10 ea. continuous bird dog 8#

Wednesday, 2.8: 9.03 miles, 10:58 pace + 20 minute full body

Such a lovely morning once again. After mile 6 I seemed to have unlocked another pillar of energy so I kept going in circles until I hit 9 miles. Just so nice out, been feeling some good vibes on the run lately.

Strength:

  • 3 x 10 skullcrusher 40#
  • 3 x 12 ea. balanced front raise 15#
  • 3 x 10 ea. balanced pull apart 20#
  • 3 x 12 ea. single leg bridge 25#
  • Core work

Thursday, 2.9: 4.08 mile walk (1:04:00)

Friday, 2.10: 6.09 miles, 10:41 pace + 20 minute full body

Really nice run despite the sweatiness. One of those rare runs after which I actually felt way better mentally, and readier to take on whatever the day had in store.

Saturday, 2.11: 8.07 miles, 10:47 pace + 32 minute full body

Tested out the Asics Novablast shoe on this run. I’ve used the New Balance 1080 for a long time now and still love it, but J adores his pair of Novablasts and encouraged me to give the model a go. I can’t judge new running shoes until a few sessions in, but my first impression was that these are really loud and a bit clunky. Perhaps a bit of wear will mellow them out, so I won’t call them a wash yet.

Strength:

  • 3 x 10 ea. balanced single arm chest press 25#
  • 3 x 8 ea. balanced triceps extension 20#
  • 3 x 12 ea. balanced single arm reverse fly 15#
  • 3 x 10 ea. sumo deadlift SS sumo squat 50#
  • 3 x 12 ea. donkey kick 25#
  • Core work

Sunday, 2.12: 4.08 mile walk (1:03:00)

Total running mileage: 36.3
