I declare this week the week of ice creams.
Perhaps it’s the summertime effect, or just the fact that I tend not to keep ice cream in the house, but I craved a frosty treat almost every day last week. Didn’t really want to commit to a whole pint, though – so, lucky me, I have three scoop shops within walking distance.
This trend started on Tuesday when I spontaneously invited my neighbor/coworker/friend to walk over to Jeni’s for ice cream. Ended up being a lovely almost-hour of strolling, chatting, and enjoying our selected flavors. I got salted caramel, she got lavender, and both were very satisfactory.
After that little walk I met another pal at Kona Grill for happy hour. Strange, me socializing twice in one day (and on a workday, for that matter), and even stranger that my friend wanted to meet up after he got off work as he never does that. Fucking innovative. I did not love the fact that the bar area was open to the outside, as it was sweltering and humid and there wasn’t adequate fan action to repel the moisture. But Kona does have one of the best happy hours in the area both from a drink and a food perspective. I got edamame and a spicy tuna roll, and a margarita. Pretty solid and very inexpensive. Score!
I also had a fun interaction with a fellow happy hour-goer about how the week could kiss both our asses so far (and it was only Tuesday). I’m usually quiet when I go to bars and mind my own business, unless I’m fucking around with the bartender if it’s a place I frequent, but a little dialogue sometimes heightens the experience, and this time it certainly did.
Thursday after work I went to the mall to help my friend buy a hat – though I didn’t really contribute much to that enterprise other than to say whether a certain selection looked like shit or not. Which I guess is a contribution. Did get lunch at BJs and enjoyed their hefeweizen, and stopped over at Haagen Dazs for a scoop of the Irish coffee brownie ice cream (ice cream #2 of the week). I hate malls, but I do like ice cream.
Ice cream #3 occurred on Friday when I met with a good friend at Lona for happy hour nibbles. She’s going through some shit so I let her talk while I ate my fair share of chips and guac (certainly not the most wholesome dinner but whatever) and sipped a capirinha (my favorite from the place). When we finished up I walked next door to Bright Ice for an espresso kahlua scoop to enjoy on the stroll home.
Saturday, man, I was in a piss ass mood for no reason. Summertime tends to do some shit to my psyche. Perhaps I just generally feel stuffy or in a constant battle of wanting to be outside and wanting nothing to do with nature since everything is so damn sticky and gross. I found myself on a couple different walks around the neighborhood just to shake my mood, but eventually I said fuck it and drove out to the bowling alley to shoot pool. Surprisingly a cathartic solo activity. I popped in my airpods, ignored the world, and played – badly, but I did get lucky the second game and got some sweet shots in. Felt much better after and wound up, who knew, at Lona again for dinner with J.
Ice cream #4 on Sunday: birthday cake, again from Bright Ice. So tasty. I basically plopped on the couch the rest of the evening and didn’t want to do jack shit.
I dunno, I’ve been rather irritable and highly strung lately. I partially blame the weather for my moodiness, partially just my general attitude towards my life and myself. Sometimes it bleeds into my conscious existence instead of staying locked up in the background like I’d prefer. In my journal I keep writing as a weekly goal to get in the pool, as the water tends to be my happy place – but I have yet to do so. Some kind of mental block has prevented me from it. I gotta use my cute floatie!
Hope ya’ll had a good week, and an enjoyable week upcoming. It’s Monday, which means a fresh start. And just know that if you begin on a flat note, there’s 6 more days to lift yourself up. Cheers!
The Fuck We Cooking This Week?
…Some kind of ice cream or ice cream treat.
…An easy summery ricotta dip.
A Few Things I’m Digging
Hair clips…Really like accessorizing with fun clips. I bought this precious pretzel clip to go with my preexisting lemon and watermelon.
Ice cream…As explained in the narrative above. Summer = frozen goodies. If you wanna try your hand at a homemade scoop, my Chocolate Chip, Oreo Cookie Quarry, and Coffee Fudge Mascarpone (all no-churn recipes) are easy and tasty options.
Shops & Wish List
Amazon cart…Can’t categorize Amazon so I’m sticking it on its own, but here’s what’s in my to-buy: these blue topaz studs (my birthstone) + lemon studs, my favorite run shorts, and this cute pineapple journal I already bought to replace my old one.
Home
Target…I’m enjoying a lot of their summery shit, even though I tend not to participate in summer because fuck you, Florida. This donut pool float is cute, and the popsicle float. This shark pool toy set (lets face it, adults like pool toys too) or glow in the dark bowling set would be fun for some entertainment.
