Some weeks are just wackadoodle. This was one of those weeks.

My schedule was off for a couple reasons this past week. First, I’ve been helping my mom out since she broke her foot, and Wednesday I spent the morning with her as chauffer to her doctor’s appointment. I normally work mornings, but instead swapped my early shift for a close – never done that before. Thank the caipirinha I drank the night I saw the shift posted in our app for inspiring me to pick it up and see how the other half lives at my job.

I hence bribed myself to work the later hours by visiting Cappy’s afterwards for a fat veggie pizza. Oh, was it good. Very quaint surrounds and even the small pie is friggin huge. Gave me leftovers for a few days.

I’m sure ya’ll who actually read these Sidebars are familiar with some of the haunts I visit regularly. Monday after I finished my chores I treated myself to a scoop of espresso Kahlua ice cream from Bright Ice (I may or may not be creating my own rendition to share. Tehe.) Tuesday I wandered to Anchor & Brine for a big bowl of mussels – my favorite – and an aperol spritz, and Friday I ended up at Tampa Bay Brewing for a pint and a chat with the coolest bartenders. Seriously, it’s worth the 40+ minute drive there to spend time with those folks. They’re fucking awesome.

Saturday I met up with a friend at Miguelitos, and we spent a pretty long time there – in part because the service was kinda slow, in part because there were many words and emotions to share that ended up spanning a good swath of the afternoon. First of all, the bar is illuminated a really lovely turquoise, which makes for a dope dining experience. We shared the chips and dip trio and I got the tropical mahi taco and a portobello taco, as well as a smoky margarita. Delish. We ended up back at their house for a spell and I channeled my inner child by derping around on their Switch playing Super Mario RPG. Fucken throwback. And I am SO rusty my God.

Now I really want to re-beat that game. Heh.

And finally, Sunday I visited mom for our weekend chitchat and to help her out with some stuff. Then, dinner at The Pearl. I enjoyed the curry mussels and a big bowl of tavern fries, and a brut rose. We shared a slice of brown sugar pie that came with the Restaurant Week menu offering. My favorite part was this maple crumble sprinkled atop. Holy balls was it good.

Adventures galore, as per. And idiocy galore. Above photo is after a 1 hour run in the middle of the fucking day on Sunday.

I’m seeing Inside Out 2 today – I watched the first one the other day, it was endearing – and I know at some point this week I need to get to the bowling alley since I was too preoccupied last week to do so. Maybe tomorrow. My mom requested a baked good of some kind since she is sorely lacking in sweet treats – she herself hasn’t been baking due to her foot – so I’ll be sure to slide that into my schedule.

Have a good week, friends!

e.l.f…Interested in their blue-ty sleep oil, sleep mask, and blue light mist (might be a gimmick but it’s a fascinating concept).

Week in Training

Monday, 6.17: 8 miles, 10:57 pace + 15 minute lift

A little wind this morning made the run slightly more tolerable, but my legs were crabby (as was the rest of me) and I was ready for it to be done by mile 4.

Strength:

  • 3 x 6 step up 40#
  • 3 x 9 ea. weighted donkey kick 30#
  • 4 x 15 swing 60#
  • 2:00 core work

Tuesday, 6.18: 7 miles, 11:00 pace + 12 minute lift

Actually felt okay out, 69 dew point, though my heart rate still won’t slow down.

Strength:

  • 3 x 6 skullcrusher 20#
  • 2 x 6/1 x 8 bench press 30/25#
  • 3 x 6 hammer curl 20#
  • :30 hang/1:30 core work

Wednesday, 6.19: 6.39 miles, 10:58 pace

Felt okay out but I was not feeling the run.

Thursday, 6.20: 5.49 miles, 10:56 pace + 15 minute lift

Not a bad run this morning. Heart rate was a little better at 155 bpm – always like to see that.

Strength:

  • 3 x 8 step up 40#
  • 3 x 10 ea. weighted donkey kick 30#
  • 3 x 10 step out squat 40#
  • 2:00 core work

Friday, 6.21: 5.46 miles, 11:00 pace + 14 minute lift

Weird fucking day. Started out fine, turned really sobering – and cloudy, which I guess fit the mood.

Strength:

  • 3 x 6 skullcrusher 20#
  • 2 x 6/1 x 10 chest press 30#/25#
  • 3 x 7 hammer curl 20#
  • 2:00 core work

Saturday, 6.22: 8 miles, 11:14 pace + 10 minute core

Don’t know why my legs were so damn sore today compared to yesterday – I didn’t do shit to them! Very sticky slog of a session.

Sunday, 6.23: 5.53 miles, 10:51 pace

So I’m a bit stupid and opted for a midday run – 1p, about 93 degrees or so with a 73 dew point. Not ideal conditions. But I woke up at my normal time and just wasn’t feeling it, and then once I got home from work really wasn’t feeling traipsing on the treadmill. I surprisingly felt okay until the last 15 minutes, then I was definitely overheating a bit. Electrolytes, ahoy!

Total running mileage: 45.9
