A bit calmer of a week, I’m glad to report. But man I’m still tired.
Really, tired is just a personality descriptor nowadays. The better word is likely weary, or fatigued, or burnt out. Stress takes a real toll on the body, I tell you what. And the week prior was about as much stress as I’m equipped to handle without fully losing my marbles.
This week was a little less intense, albeit also more intense in some ways. Conversations, even if they aren’t about me, can drain the soul if the topics are heavy enough. With my friends, they usually are pretty gritty. But that’s why I’m grateful for my people. We don’t dance around truths; for the most part, we smack them head-on, poke and prod where it hurts, hoping perhaps we emerge safely from the wreckage.
Tuesday I bounced over to Green Lemon for happy hour tacos and a margarita. Wandered over next door to Cinnaholic to sample one of their absurdly massive, loaded cinnamon rolls. Think of this place like a froyo parlor, except cinnybuns, and somehow everything offered is vegan. I kept my selection relatively benign: cinnamon roll base, coffee frosting, and mini chocolate chips. I did manage to eat the whole thing in the course of the afternoon. Go me.
Wednesday I walked to Ava for pizza and wine. Walking was a bit of a mistake, I was totally sweat drenched by the end, but for whatever reason I just really didn’t feel like driving that evening. The scenery was quite pretty despite the ridiculous temp and humidity. I ordered the margherita pizza and a house salad. Their happy hour menu has shrunk over the past year, but it’s still one of the more solid offerings in the area.
Thursday I met up with a friend semi-spontaneously to see The Watchers. It was crap. I know a movie is a bit of a flop when I start making sarcastic responses to the characters. Apparently it was M. Night Shamalamadingdong’s daughter’s directoral debut, and while the visuals of the movie showed promise to her craft, the storyline was mediocre. We stood out in the parking lot after for a solid 30 minutes and had a very humbling chats that, while productive and vulnerable, left my soul a little dreary. Hard talks are hard, man.
Friday I went bowling again and man I killed it! Most consistent I’ve been so far. One game of 137 (randomly in the middle of my 9 games) but the first I bowled a 165 and my highest was a 190. Very pleased. I strolled over to Bright Ice once I got home for a bigass bowl of ice cream. Way too much for me to eat, but the sea salt caramel and chocolate peanut butter cup flavors are fab. It melted pretty much immediately when I walked outside. Worth it.
And finally, Sunday I finally got to hang out with one of my best pals. We met up at La Setima Club. What a cute locale, nestled in a very random area of town that I never think about. We discussed everything for a couple hours over our wines and apps. I had a rose and a red blend, and we shared the black eyed pea hummus and “sausage” egg rolls. So good.
As per, I haven’t fully planned out anything for the week. Taking it day by day. I’m of course hoping to bowl again and will probably sneak out for an ice cream or two. Anything going on with ya’ll? Perhaps I’ll get inspired.
Enjoy your week! Big hugs to you all.

Week in Training
Monday, 6.3: 8.36 miles, 10:46 pace + 16 minute lift

- 2:00 core work
Tuesday, 6.4: 5.56 miles, 10:46 pace + 12 minute lift
A fairly decent start to the day, bit of a breeze and not as deadly humid. I felt weirdly winded during my tiny weightlifting session, though, which was a bit odd.

Stickier this morning.
Thursday, 6.6: 5.44 miles, 11:01 pace +14 minute lift
Lot of post-nasal drip happening this morning. I was vaguely afraid that I’m coming down with something but usually my running heartrate will show that before anything else – it read 153bpm average, though, which is a healthy number.

- 3 x 6 ea. weighted donkey kick 30#
- 4 x 12 swing 60#

Sweaty, sticky, still. The anthem of the season.

82 degrees at 4 am, absolutely no breeze. Bit of a struggle to get through this one.
Sunday, 6.9: 6.2 miles, 11:16 pace
Don’t think this was quite accurate – GPS has been a bit goofy the past couple days. Maybe the satellites moved in the sky.
Total running mileage: 45.5
