Who else here loves sitting in the dark in the early morning hours?

Kind of a random musing, but one perk of finishing workouts super early is the peaceful predawn hours where I get to observe the sun climbing up from its evening nap. Granted, at some point the glare its my computer screen straight-on and I can’t fucking see what I’m typing, but the payoff is worth the hassle. Mornings are the time no one expects anything of me, and I expect nothing of myself.

Some folks experience worsened mental health symptoms during these lonelier minutes; for my part, at least in the AM I’m less inclined to feel harried, sad, distraught. Nighttime is different, but I’m at home in the morning. I’m given the chance to sort through the mental fluff with a calmer eye.

I actually feel like I’m coming down with something today, Monday, which is no good. My throat’s been tickling me for a bit and I’ve been extremely tired since Friday. I passed a lot of Sunday napping. Recent stress is probably catching up to me and forcing my body into snail mode. Sometimes I need the reminder to slow down.

Last week was nondescript largely, but this week should be more fun. My sister and her fiance are flying down over the weekend and J and I will play host to a family BBQ on Sunday. Here’s hoping the weather holds up. This visit also means I’ll need to mad-clean my house – not that my family really gives a shit, but it’s an excuse to do a big tidy up and deep clean that’ll last, oh, the next four months or so.

Yeah, that’s pretty much the extent of my report. I’m having trouble focusing this morning so I’ll leave the narrative at that. Tell me a highlight from your week? Maybe it’ll inspire me to get my ass wriggling into motion.

Oh, and also, according to my IG poll on Saturday most of you can’t quirk your eyebrows. So odd! I always thought most folks could do at least one sassy brow, but I guess not. Stay tuned for the next meaningless poll about lip sneering. Coming soon.

The Fuck We Cooking This Week?

…A simple “deconstructed” salad of a favorite summertime appetizer.

…A classic peachy dessert.

…Some spicy, flavorful vegetarian tacos.

…A refreshing fruity sangria.

A Few Things I’m Digging

Chips…Send help, I’m on a potato chip kick. After last week’s pool party we were left with a bag of kettle cooked Cape Cod jalapeno chips. They’re gone now, but holy nuts are they addicting!

Barware…I love everything in the Viski barware collection. Their pieces are stunning. I own the Gatsby tumblers and the Admiral tumblers, and would love to sneak a few more into my arsenal.

Shops & Wish List

Skincare & Wellness

Colourpop…Discovered a lot of shit they carry that I never knew existed. Want to try the hyaluronic acid tinted moisturizer and the watermelon face milk. The fresh peach lux lip oil sounds lovely, too, for some summery hydration without being too heavy.

Elf…I remember back in the day when ELF was priced at $5 or less (and kinda sucked) but they’ve expanded their repertoire significantly over the years. I’m really interested in the whole Halo Glow line, specifically the liquid filter and the highlighter beauty wand. Might try the holy hydration lip mask

Home

Target…Some of the “back to college” finds are actually things I’d like to add to my home. Still eyeing the lumbar throw pillow and this botanical pillow is nice too. Been looking for a good rug for our living room and like this simple shag style. Neutral colors appeal to me most.

Kitchen & Dining

Williams-Sonoma…Will this be the year I fork out for the pumpkin punch bowl? We will see! Found a knockoff at Michael’s that I’m considering as well if the WS sticker shock is too strong.

Week in Training

Monday, 7.24: 6.2 miles, 11:37 pace + 25 minute push

Wasn’t sure what I had in me today but I actually saw two incoming ships! So, had to extend the run so I could say hello. Wasn’t an awful trot, really, though undoubtedly sticky and hot.

Strength:

  • 4 x 10 triceps press down 32#
  • 4 x 12 ea. bench press 25#
  • 4 x 10 ea. shoulder press 15#
  • Core work + 40 second deadhang

Tuesday, 7.25: 3.33 miles, 11:27 pace

74 dew point was a teensy bit more tolerable than the usual 78-79, so I decided to run this morning and was pretty okay with it.

Wednesday, 7.26: 6.2 miles, 11:32 pace + 20 minute pull

Again with the 74 dew point. I got into a good rhythm around mile 3 and felt pretty even-keeled the rest of the way. I just feel real bad for anyone who wanders into the gym while I’m working out in there because I probably REEK like no one’s business. Summer running does nothing for glamour.

Strength:

  • 4 x 12 ea. hammer curl 15#
  • 4 x 8 row 35#
  • 4 x 10 mid row 60#
  • Core work + 40 second deadhang

Thursday, 7.27: 3.3 mile run/walk (46 minutes)

Walked all of this except the final mile, where I just kinda decided to jog. Felt okay out but I was really tired.

Friday, 7.28: 4.4 miles, 11:23 pace

My les weren’t cooperative but I felt okay overall energy-wise. The dew points are creeping back up, which is not ideal, so I’ll “take advantage” of these 75 dew points as best I can. Gross sobbing.

Saturday, 7.29: 7.04 miles, 11:39 pace + 25 minute legs

My heartrate was weirdly low (156) for how incredibly gross it was outside. Sucks to think that the worst of summer hasn’t even come yet – that’s August. Saw three distant ships coming in, which is always a comfort, and no one else outside seemed to be having fun with their morning workouts. Ah, camaraderie in suffering.

Strength:

  • 4 x 10 ea. leg press 120#
  • 4 x 12 ea. calf raise 130#
  • 4 x 10 ea. single leg deadlift 40#
  • Core work + 40 second deadhang

Sunday, 7.30: 5.31 miles, 11:18 pace

Total running mileage: 32.5
