Nothing like a flat tire to make you feel alive on the inside.
Driving along, minding my own business, and suddenly my tire pressure alert comes on. 25…23…20. I thankfully was only a quarter mile from work, so I slowed up to 10 mph and coasted into the parking lot. When I peeped at my tire, I could hear the air whistling out of some unknown hole. That thing was dead as fuck.
Real cute, Sunday.
Luckily, J was up and hadn’t left yet to mountain bike, so he came and installed the donut so I could mill around on my chores after I got off work. He patched the tire up in the evening, but apparently the hole was pretty large and it’s probably smarter for me to get a new tire then risk driving too much on it. I figure I can just leave it in my trunk as my new “spare” in case I have another incident. God forbid.
It’s fine. This shit happens to most people and I’m due for a new set of rear tires anyway (though I’ll realistically only get that one replaced because I’m a cheap ass ninny). I’m grateful my response wasn’t an overblown panic. I was more annoyed than anything. I theorize I ran over something near a construction zone, probably a fatass nail.
Aside from that, we had a nice dinner out on Sunday. I enjoyed a glass of cab, bread and calamari, and half enjoyed my entree. The first one I was forced to be in rare form and send back, because it tasted like nothing, but the waiter was kind and I tried to not be an asshole (I hate sending food or drink back) and the second dish was much nicer. Though, I’ll say my socks were fully intact after the meal. J ordered a slice of lemon mascarpone cake that was divine, and I finished off my meal with sea salt caramel gelato. If nothing else, the outing proved just what I needed after a ridiculous day.
I’m really excited for this week, the first of September looming and the official launch of Foul Mouth Fall. Tomorrow I’m thrilled for the recipe I’m sharing, a sneak preview of what’s to come thematically throughout the next months. I might even cave and buy a pumpkin candle this week…
Share something good that happened to you this week. I need all the happy I can get!
The Fuck’s For Dinner This Week?
A brilliant late summer kale salad
Loaded up salmon bowls with an easy peachy side
A pumpkin treat that’ll spice up breakfast and snack time
A cheesy, delectable pizza
A comfy cozy tortellini dish
A Few Things I’m Digging
Sun-dried tomatoes…First of all, I don’t know the proper way to denote sun-dried tomatoes. Sun-dried? Sundried? Sun dried? Whatever. I usually buy a jar from Alessi and recently whipped up a big batch of pesto for a couple mean recipes I’ll be sharing soon.
Scents…Absolutely love Dossier’s Citrus Green Apple (and the men’s Woody Green Apple). Bought both for J and I to wear on our upcoming trip. They smell costly but I paid a fraction of the originals they’re meant to emulate.
Crostinis…Burrata Avocado Toast with Basil Vinaigrette combines practically all of my favorite flavors on one slab of bread. The best easy appetizer for the end of summer.
Goals for the Week
Fix my email blast…It seems Mailchimp changed how they do RSS emails, so I have to figure out how that works. I wanted to get the first one out this week but I’ve got some housekeeping to do, so keep an eye for a fresh blast next week! Sorry ya’ll!
New tire…SiiiiiIIIIIgh. But it’s gotta be done.
One proper swim…I’ve been enjoying splashes in my little pool lately, but I’d like to visit my usual pool to say hi to my lifeguard pals and do a proper workout.
Shops and Wish List
Fashion
Target… Swung by Monday to grab the cream quarter zip I missed on during the sale, SO soft. I also found another black a-line skirt with fucking pockets, but it doesn’t seem to be online yet. Will link when it is. Fascinated by these burgundy pleat front shorts, love the shade for autumn and winter but need to think more on what I own that would match well: probably a white camisole and a good pair of neutral heels for a spiffy daytime look or casual evening, or a simple black tee for roaming about the house.
Quince… Had to return the Madewell jumpsuit I purchased last week (flashing people at a wedding is a bad idea), but thankfully the French terry jumpsuit came back in stock, so I ordered that instead. Wonderfully soft, bouncy, and comfortable.
Linjer…Waiting for the moon ring to come back in stock in my size. J bought me a sun and moon necklace awhile back from a Vegas trip, and I would love a little finger accessory to somewhat match that piece.
Kitchen/Dining
Espresso machine…I’m invested mentally in picking out a good machine for our house. I have to do a good amount of research before I decide on one, but so far I’m eyeing the Breville Bambino, the Kitchenaid Semi-Automatic, and the De’longhi Dedica Arte. I don’t need anything too substantial since it’s not like I’m slinging drinks for the public, but it would be a very valuable tool to add to my arsenal.
Crate & Barrel… Adore this pumpkin candle trio for my bookshelves. The Moscow mule mugs are an excellent piece for autumn cocktail-making. I’d probably get the classic bronze but the gold is super pretty also. I’ve mentioned how much I’m pining after the Hatch cocktail glasses, and for hosting the dispenser and decanter would be beautiful centerpieces for a fall gathering.
Pottery Barn…These leaf napkin rings are super cute and would look nice on a simple wooden tablescape. The La Rochere whiskey glass set would be incredible for cozy cocktails, thinking a smoky old fashioned or something with chocolate and bitters. Not a kitchen item, but I am pining over these pumpkin pillows – they’re not in stock right now and I’m really hoping they come to be soon.
Week in Training
Monday, 8.21: 9.02 miles, 11:18 pace + 40 minute back & bis
Horridly gross morning, run didn’t feel very good at all and the conditions made me a very grumpy passerby on the trail.
Strength:
- 3 x 9 ea. single arm row 45#
- 3 x 10 preacher curl 65#
- 3 x 9 straight arm pulldown 45#
- 3 x 15 elevated curl 10#
- 3 x 10 lat pulldown 70#
- 4 x 10 hammer curl 20#
- 3 x 10 press out 30#
- 5 minutes core work
Tuesday, 8.20: 7.2 miles, 10:59 pace + 20 minute swim
Much better outside today and my legs had some pizzazz, so the extra pre-work miles felt pretty good. A quick dip in the little pool for a continuous 20 minute swim was just what I needed when I got home and before I started stirring up trouble in the kitchen.
Wednesday, 8.24: 11.02 miles, 11:04 pace + 35 minute legs
Strangely enough my best feeling miles were 8-11, usually that period is a bit of a black hole. I’ll take it. 158 bpm average heart rate for a pretty cruddy morning is also a win for me!
Strength:
- 3 x 12 sumo deadlift SS 10 sumo squat, elevated, 60#
- 3 x 12 elevated narrow squat 60#
- 4 x 8 ea. single leg hip thrust 60#
- 3 x 10 ea. elevated lunge 60#
- 3 x 15 calf raise 180#
- 5 minutes core
Thursday, 8.27: 4.05 mile walk (1:03:00)+ 20 minute swim
Friday, 8.28: 8 miles, 11:13 pace + 38 minute chest & tris
Really felt good in the morning, so as usual skipped strength until after work.
Strength:
- 3 x 10 ea. single arm extension 20#
- 3 x 10 incline press 30#
- 3 x 10 triceps extension 50/45#
- 3 x 8 chest press 80#
- 3 x 9 skullcrusher 40#
- 4 x 8 ea. lateral press down 15#
Saturday, 8.27: 11.04 miles, 11:19 pace + 45 minutes legs & shoulders
SUPER sweaty morning, but overall didn’t feel bad. Maybe a bit more allergy-ridden than usual since I was coughing a little bit – heart rate was fine and legs cooperated mostly.
Strength:
- 4 x 10 ea. banded lateral lifts 40#
- 3 x 10 underhand front raise 40#
- 3 x 10 leg extension 150#
- 3 x 10 ea. cross front raise 20#
- 3 x 15 sumo squat 65#
- 3 x 10 ea. military press 20#
- 3 x 10 narrow goblet squat 65#
Sunday, 8.28: 4.02 mile walk (1:02:00)
Total running mileage: 46.28
