What I’m Up To This Week

Happy birthday to my momma! Today, 8.15, marks her 69th year around the sun. Amazing. I’ve probably said this many times before, but she is the reason I am only about 75% asshole and not 100%. Thanks, genetics.

The plan is to head over to her place later today (after I redo her cake that I fucked up yesterday. Go me) and let her sit back while I cook up a nice dinner. She asked specifically for risotto so I’m whipping up my No Stir Pesto Risotto, some scallops, and an easy side salad. Nothing too complex, but something special for her because lord knows she deserves it.

Only big notable thing from the week was another date night with J at On Swann. Really wonderful experience there. The first cocktail I ordered was a flop because I didn’t realize Orgeat is almond flavored, and whenever almond is present in anything I automatically taste that and nothing else. Made up for it with a strawberry watermelon fixture. We shared the burrata toast and kale salad, while I ordered scallops and crab stuffed pepadew over parmesan polenta. So amazing. Chocolate cake and bread pudding rounded out the fare, and by the end I was basically rolling out the door. Had to take an alka seltzer the next morning to debloat.

Quick talk today. Busy morning under these gloomy skies we’re seeing. Peace!

What I’m Into and Up To This Week

Testing…Not fully finalized, but thinking a creamy gnocchi, homemade Poptarts, a skillet salmon dinner, a riff on the toast I enjoyed Sunday, tacos, and a sour cocktail!

Digging…

Being Frenshe Cashmere Vanilla body & hair oil... So luxurious and not greasy at all. After long days (usually Mondays) after dry brushing I massage a small amount all over. Smells soothing and doesn’t make me feel like an oily towel.

Doughnuts... Having fun with baked doughnuts lately and excited for an autumn flavor soon! The Churro Peach Doughnuts will definitely be in regular rotation so long as peaches are available in stores.

Cereal…Still on my Golden Grahams game. Best mixer for protein cereal.

Naturium Niacinamide Gel Cream 5%… Best day cream I’ve tried so far. Skin feels super smooth and hydrated.

Shopping

Target…First off, Target is running 30% off shoes, apparel, and accessories through the 20th, so jump on it. Still eyeing this slim fit mock neck tank, snatching it if I find my size. Bought this black large tote handbag I mentioned last week, hoping it fits my laptop. Added a pair of relaxed belted trousers, love the fit that can be worn up or down, and already got the satin A-line skirt which I’ve been hunting down for awhile. Would wear with hose on cooler nights or fancier occasions. For cozies, grabbed these high rise fleece joggers (dig the cream color) and eyeing the fleece hooded sweatshirt. Will also get these seamless bike shorts in olive green, for cooking days or quick errands.

Madewell…Can’t get over this wide-leg jumpsuit, ordered Saturday and hyped to receive it. Definite wedding attire and for any dress-up event. Really into the boiled wool belted sweater jacket, probably black, looks very versatile and cozy. This tunic vest is a unique piece I’d wear over a simple tee, or on its own.

Quince…An alternative to the Madewell jumpsuit is this French terry piece or, if it comes back in stock, this jersey wide leg one. Love the coziness of this oversized cardigan in “camel” if it comes back in stock. The ultra stretch straight leg pant would look great with a flowy satin tank top and black heels for evening, or a big sweater during the daytime when it gets cooler out.

Skincare/Wellness…

Dossier…Quite interested in this brand of perfumes, most known for creating dupes of famous fragrances at a fraction of the cost while also maintaining an eye on sustainable practices. Always on board for that. Eyeing their Citrus Green Apple and Floral Pear scents for fall.

Winky Lux…The packaging is what sold me, but reviews are amazing for a lot of their products. Wanting to try their Rose Moringa facial oil and the Fizz & Glow bubbling face mask, which claims is good for reoxygenating the skin and clearing out the pores. The Cheeky Rose blush is gorgeous and may fit into my arsenal once I overhaul my (already tiny) makeup collection.

Being Frenshe… Already adore the lavender cloud glow on perfume oil and the cashmere vanilla body and hair radiance oil. Thinking of grabbing the lavender cloud reset candle for the bathroom.

Saie…A very respected cruelty-free brand known for the Slip Tint tinted moisturizer. Interested in trying it for days I want a little bit of coverage (my skin’s pretty good so I don’t need much).

Week in Training

Monday, 8.8: 12.03 miles, 11:03 pace + 20 minute swim

Oh lordy, did I need a big run today. Woke up a bit scattered and needed to mentally hash through my day. Kept going and going until I reached the perceived end of the path I usually run, and figured I might as well take the long way home to equalize a full 12 miles. Just what I needed. Skipped out on my lift and jumped in the pool straight after the run, in my running clothes. Worth it.

Tuesday, 8.9: 6 miles, 10:55 pace + 30 minute chest + tris + 20 minute swim

Squeezed in some strength, which was good, and the run felt really great. Legs weren’t mad from the day before, which was surprising. Cooled off after work in the tiny pool with a little casual swim.

Strength:

  • 3 x 10 ea. single arm press down 15#
  • 3 x 10 incline fly 20# SS narrow press 20#
  • 3 x 9 skullcrusher 40#
  • 3 x 8 ea. single arm press 35#
  • 4 x 10 balanced extension 30#
  • 3 x 10 weighted pushup 25#

Wednesday, 8.10: 9.03 miles, 11:04 pace + 45 minute legs & shoulders

My nasal strip peeled off about 3 miles into my run, which significantly impacted how I felt the rest of the way – but it was far from awful, and I managed well. The clear Breathe Rights suck, FYI. Get the standard ones. Rounded out the morning in the gym with a quick session to fire up the muscles.

Strength:

  • 3 x 10 goblet sumo squat 60#
  • 3 x 8 ea. shoulder press 30#
  • 3 x 11 leg press 190#
  • 3 x 10 ea. cross front raise 15#
  • 3 x 12 alt curtsy lunge 60#
  • 3 x 8 ea. upright row 25#
  • 3 x 10 deep deadlift 100#
  • 5 minutes core

Thursday, 8.11: 4 mile walk (1:02:00) + 1,200 yard swim (27:10)

First time back in the pool proper for a couple weeks. With school in session the lap lanes have been far less stressful. When I arrived there was no one upstairs and it was the most glorious experience. Felt rusty but really glad to get back in the water.

Friday, 8.12: 6.03 miles, 11:07 pace + 23 minute back & biceps

158 heartrate! A nice little adventure until I encountered some deranged dude running in front of moving cars screaming. That was interesting. Thankfully it was as I was in the final stretch of my run and there were plenty of people around, and he didn’t bother me personally. Still not exactly a relaxing end to the session.

Strength:

  • 3 x 8 waiter curl 45#
  • 3 x 10 underhand row 45#
  • 3 x 12 incline hammer curl 20#
  • 3 x 10 straight arm pulldown 41#
  • 3 x 10 behind back pulldown 60#

Saturday, 8.13: 10.01 miles, 11:11 pace + 50 minute full body

Despite very heavy legs, this was a wonderful run, and my heart rate finally crept down to a 155 average. I have no qualms with my slow pace – I’d imagine my running economy isn’t great since I don’t do anything fast or plug in much variation. I’m in the normal range for me at least, and I couldn’t be happier that the trend of very flawed running seems to be reversing.

Strength:

  • 3 x 10 bent arm side raise 20#
  • 3 x 10 ea. cross pushdown 15#
  • 3 x 10 close bench press 35#
  • 3 x 10 sumo deadlift 100#
  • 3 x 10 ea. wide curl 20#
  • 3 x 12 face pull 45#
  • 3 x 10 ea. single leg hip thrust 50#
  • 6 minutes core work.

Sunday, 8.14: 4 mile walk (1:02:00)

Total running mileage: 43.12 (!)

Total swimming yardage: 1,200
