Woohoo, we leave for adventures tomorrow! Heading up to Boston/Rhode Island for a wedding, and hopefully some leisure time as well. I’ve missed the shit out of travel and can’t wait for a semi-early morning drive to TIA.
I find the routine of pre-departure rather charming, even if it stresses me out on occasion. Especially when our flight is pre-dawn or shortly after. This time around we’re not taking off the tarmac at 6am, but we’ll be driving en route around then, so I’d say it counts as an early morning trek. My plan is to squeak in a short run, make up a quick to-go breakfast sandwich, and grab coffee once we reach the airport. Gotta love that overpriced terminal Starbucks when you’re on-the-go.
I asked on Instagram whether ya’ll are inclined to roll or fold your clothes in a suitcase, and most of you replied “fold.” Have you tried rolling before? I learned that trick when I lived abroad several years ago and honestly, I’m not hating. That’s the only way I pack now: you can fit so much more shit in a tinier space, plus the clothes don’t wrinkle harshly.
Also – do you pack snacks or depend on hyperinflated airport food? I try to bring some protein bars, whole fruits (apples, bananas, grapes), and crackers to prevent a big spending binge. Maybe next week I’ll give some of my best tips for prepping airline-friendly foods to save money and be a bit healthier while climbing ungodly heights in the sky. Would that be interesting to you? Or, perhaps, an easy batch recipe to portion out for trips? Hmmm. Wheels are rolling.
Looking forward to some time away, even if that means more forced socialization than I’m used to. Well, I shouldn’t say that, I work in food service. Forced socialization is kind of my job. And these are good people, at least, so can’t complain overmuch.
Have a good week, kids!
Also, get a load of this fucking apron. So fitting.
The Fuck We Eating This Week?
Leftovers? No recipe tests this week, so ya’ll are fending for yourselves out of the fridge and freezer. Don’t worry, though, I will be posting as usual while I’m out of town, and the meal plans and weekly blasts will run as scheduled! Not yet part of the Foul Mouth Flock? Sign up here!
The In-Flight Edit
Or in-car, or any type of travel requiring extended time cooped up in a tight space.
A Few Things I’m Digging
Tortellini…The remainders of the Creamy White Wine Pumpkin Tortellini are just as good as the fresh pot. The sauce thickens a lot over time, and the pasta absorbs much of the liquid, but the flavor remains incredible (and in some ways even better!)
Granola…This Pumpkin Pie Granola is my favorite lately. I whip up a smoothie bowl every weekend and this shit on top does not disappoint. Not too sweet and full of big clusters, just the way I prefer!
Joggers…The Stars Above fleece joggers are the most comfortable ever. They’re not oppressively warm but super snug and soft.
Goldfish…The new Pumpkin Spice Dunkin Goldfish are addicting. I find myself swiping a pinch every time I go near my pantry. Not my best habit, but hey, it’s ~fall ya’ll~ sort of.
Shops and Wish List
Fashion
Target…I’m direly in the need of a good pair of jeans so I’m eyeing a few styles to try out at some point. This straight leg high rise pair looks promising, love the medium wash. Or, mid-rise skinnies if I can get them past my calves. Levi’s makes a high-rise cropped jean, which on my short legs might actually fit with a normal length, and I do like the cut of them so they’re worth investigating. In other investigations: still pining over this collared polo and really hope these open front layering cardigans come back in stock soon (thinking the Cream or Tan shades). These mock neck sweaters look super cozy, I like the Burgundy quite a bit.
Quince…Into these commuter blouses. Seems a lot of brands are starting to make airline-friendly apparel for people like me who don’t want to dress up but also don’t want to look like bedraggled hooligans.
Allbirds…As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been on the prowl for some good house shoes, and this sustainable, largely upcycled brand caught my attention. The Wool Dwellers are my number one option, but I also like the look and colorways of the Wool Loungers. I’m willing to invest a little since I’d wear these every single day at home, for long periods too.
Kitchen/Dining
Crate and Barrel…Yo, everything from the new Athena Calderone collection is dizzyingly pretty. Really thinking of getting the etched wine glasses (Thanksgiving table?), the spuntini dip bowl, and the rose alabaster wine cooler. Think I’ll pick up the Craft sage salad plates as well to refresh my table set for the fall and winter.
Skincare/Wellness
Cocokind…Some really good reviews led me to try out the AHA Jelly Cleanser since my current Naturium favorite seems to be discontinued (sob). The smell is very odd, which I think is from the hibiscus flower, but its very creamy and lathers well so I’m encouraged so far.
Dossier…I think I need to buy the Ambery Sage just because it’s inspired by Tom Ford’s “Fucking Fabulous” scent, and, well, I’m the FMG. Only seems fitting.
Week in Training
Monday, 9.12: 12.14 miles, 11:04 pace
Friggin gross out this morning, but I was inspired so got an extra long trot in before the day began.
Tuesday, 9.13: 7.17 miles, 11:18 pace + 35 minute shoulders & core
Much better out this morning, heart rate hung out at 154 bpm! I skipped out on the gym in the morning but made up for it after work, and surprisingly I didn’t mind the session. I warmed up with 5 minutes of bodyweight moves just to get the heart rate up before diving into the main session.
Strength:
- 3 x 12 ea. balanced side raise 15#
- 4 x 10 squat to upright row 25#
- 3 x 10 squat to press 20#
- 3 x 30 Russian twist 25#
- 3 x 10 hammer front raise 30#
- 3 x 30 feet over dumbbell
- 3 x 20 hover knee taps
Wednesday, 9.14: 10.04 miles, 11:27 pace + 40 minute legs and core
Legs were not cooperating today, I felt okay overall but they were definitely tight and sticky and not wanting to do the running thing. Surprisingly my cadence wasn’t awful, but those high 11s were about all I could manage for the duration.
Strength:
- 4 x 10 ea. single leg deadlift with knee drive 35#
- 3 x 10 sumo deadlift 100#
- 3 x 15 ea. dumbbell pass 20#
- 3 x 12 elevated narrow goblet squat 60#
- 4 x 10 ea. elevated reverse lunge 35#
- 3 x 20 weighted leg drop 35#
Thursday, 9.15: 4.03 mile walk (1:03:00)
Friday, 9.16: 7.63 miles, 11:12 pace + 30 minute chest & tris
Took all my willpower to lift after work, but got something in. I guess a small half-hearted session is better than no session.
Strength:
- 4 x 10 OH extension 45#
- 3 x 10 narrow press 30#
- 3 x 10 ea. balanced pressdown 15#
- 3 x 10 pullover 45#
- 3 x 10 weighted pushup 20#
- 3 x 10 ea. hip dip 20#
Saturday, 9.17: 10.03 miles, 11:34 pace + 40 minute legs & core
Bit of everything in the gym today, mostly leg-focused but threw in some core, back, and a single biceps move. I really hate working biceps because the motion is so dull.
Strength:
- 3 x 10 ea. side lunge 40#
- 3 x 10 ea. balanced row 35#
- 4 x 12 sissy squat
- 3 x 16 balanced dumbbell “slam” 20#
- 4 x 10 sumo squat 90#
- 3 x 15 ea. plank oblique crunch
- 3 x 12 waiter curl 35#
- 50 bicycles/40 jackknives/30 bodyweight squats/20 shoulder taps/10 inchworms
- 1 minute plank
Sunday, 9.18: 4.03 mile walk (1:03:00)
Total running mileage: 47 miles
