strawberry elderflower spritz

Let’s welcome in our beautiful spring strawberry yield!

Man, I want to go berry picking. There’s a farm about 45 minutes or so away from me that usually runs u-picks of strawberries and blueberries this time of year, but the dates have been few and far between as of now. I’m a little worried I’ll miss out on our yearly blueberry adventure. I love weaving among the fields, seeking the fattest fruits, eating a few warm off the branches just cos that’s what you do to ensure quality control.

If you want the berry picking feel but can’t reach a proper farm, pop into your favorite grocer for a pint of beautiful strawbs and mix up this Strawberry Elderflower Spritz. A simple drink hinted with elderflower and rosewater and capped with a big splash of prosecco, you’ll surely feel like you’re sipping on a patio with a gentle spring breeze stroking your hair. Even if it’s still 40 degrees and snowing outside.

I envy ya’ll for that.

What Happened To the Youngerflower?

I could just Google why it’s called elderflower and why there isn’t a youthful equivalent, but quite honestly I’m busy writing this post and don’t feel like opening another tab.

This spritz contains a couple fresh muddled strawberries, honey, and rosewater for a pretty little punch of flavor alongside the floral liqueur. The traditional iteration of this cocktail is often dubbed the Hugo Spritz and may have a spring or two of mint as garnish.

I liked the idea of amplifying the garden party vibe, hence the rosewater.

Grab your cocktail shaker and muddle a couple strawberries – slice them up a bit to make the smooshing easier – with honey and the rosewater. Then add in your elderflower liqueur: St Germain is the best and most common brand. Shake with a few cubes of ice until cold, then strain into your favorite cocktail glass. A highball or stemmed wine glass is common, but I like a big coupe glass because why not.

Top with prosecco and club soda. Finish off with a cute strawberry on the rim, maybe a couple slices in the drink itself.

Sit back and savor. Enjoy the weekend, pals!
